Another great place to take the kids is the Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center. This quaint museum offers free admission and is open throughout the year. It is located in the county’s first elementary school building, which is a two-story brick structure in Historic Old Town Fairfax. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a beautiful sight to see. You can also stroll around Historic Old Town Fairfax from the museum and see other historical buildings or visit a local eatery to grab a snack.

Ice skating is an activity that many kids enjoy, and you can enjoy a day of skating at the nearby Fairfax Ice Arena. The arena is open seven days a week, and skate rentals are available if you don’t own your own skates. Skate lessons are available throughout the week, and public skate sessions are open daily.

The City of Fairfax Regional Library is also a wonderful place to take the kids for an outing. Located on North Street, this large facility has much to offer to the little ones and grown-ups, too. The library’s calendar is filled with children’s story times, arts and crafts sessions, tech help and gaming classes, puzzle activities, and many other kid-friendly activities.
